This quarter, RetailMeNot conducted a survey to showcase the latest trends in dining out for consumer aged 18 to 65 plus. Throughout the survey, RetailMeNot shares insights on how discounts and deals impact consumer’s decisions when it comes to eating out.
As technology transforms the dining experience, it’s important for restaurant owners to stay on top of these trends. Here are three important things to know:
More than half of deal-savvy diners have at least one food and dining app on their smartphone today.
While many restaurants have their own apps, consumers are also downloading apps to get insight on restaurant reviews and deals. Currently, 55% of online orders processed by Mobi2Go are through mobile devices. Mobile apps are a good way to increase brand loyalty and keep in touch with customers outside normal business hours.
Nearly half of diners say they will give a restaurant a second chance after a bad experience if they’re offered a deal or discount on their next meal.
Mistakes happen – but it’s how you handle these mistakes that will make or break a consumer’s dining experience. This report shows that consumers are looking for a gesture of good will when these mistakes impact their dining experience. After all, increasing your customer retention by just 2% has the same effect on profits as cutting costs by 10%
More than 1 in 3 restaurant goers are willing to search for deals before dining out.
Deal savvy consumers have more access to discount and deals than ever before. Groupon deals and online coupons offer consumers incentives to try new restaurants in their area. Many consumers are even willing to travel over ten miles to get a deal on meals at a restaurant, especially when dining alone or with children. Additionally, 3 out of 4 consumers say they would go to a restaurant during off-peak times if they received a discount.
